Ronald Koeman has resigned from the position of Netherlands head coach after their 2026 World Cup exit at the Round of 32.
Netherlands were eliminated by Morocco at the Round of 32 after an unsuccessful penalty shootout.
Koeman stepped down from the role and hinted that it could be his final managerial assignment.
“Looking back on my career, I feel proud. I have worked with clubs and people that shaped me and gave me memories that I will cherish for a lifetime,” posted on his Instagram page.
“We dreamt of a World Cup in which we would write history. That hardly happened and no one is more disappointed about that than me,” he added.
“The past years have made me realise again that there are more important things than football. Football has been my life, but health is priceless. When someone you love is fighting a tough battle, your perspective changes.”
Morocco advanced to the last 16 and will take on Canada in Houston on Saturday.
