Uganda Silverbacks suffered a painful 62-95 loss to Angola in the FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers on Thursday evening.
It was a poor show where the Silverbacks looked decent until the long break. After the halftime break, their wheels went off and were fully dominated by Angola.
Angola’s Selton Miguel got the game underway with a jumpshot before Leonard Musiime responded with a long shot beyond the paint.
Angola opened a five-point (19-14) lead at the end of the opening period before extending it to seven points (42-35) going into the halftime break.
Coming from the long break, the Silverbacks conceded 21 unanswered points as the hosts pegged them on the back foot with a full-court press.
At the end of the third period, Angola had extended the lead to 27 points after a greatly dominated frame.
Abou Gakou netted two back-to-back shots beyond the paint as Angola sealed of a dominant 33-point victory.
Fayed Baale (17 points), Leonard Musiime (17 points) and Nike Sibande (12 points) led the Silverbacks’ scoring chart in double digits.
On the other hand, Angola’s scoring chart was led by Selton Miguel (17 points), Gerson Goncalves (15 points), Abou Gakou (14 points) and Bruno Fernando (14 points).
