Rugby Africa has confirmed October 3-4 as the new dates for the postponed Mauritius 7s (Rugby Africa 7s).
The tournament had been scheduled for last June but was postponed under medical recommendations due to the outbreak of the Ebola Virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
Due to the virus, Uganda had initially been scrapped entirely from the tournament and was replaced by Senegal, but the organisers, Mauritius Rugby, decided to push the tournament altogether.
Whereas Uganda’s participation has not been confirmed yet, the new dates provide a window of opportunity for the Rugby Cranes 7s to compete and reclaim the title they won in 2024.
Uganda has not only been a formidable competitor, winner and host of the Africa 7s, but they are also a valuable strategic Rugby Africa member and partner, factors that could have informed the postponement of the tournament, but also a possible reinstatement to the Mauritius 7s.
The National 7s kick off on the weekend of July 25 and 26 and shall run until September 20, just in time for the final touches for the Africa 7s.
Preparations are already in high gear with the National team, as the Emerging Cranes and Sevens Academy continue to train, having participated in the Busiro 7s and Burundi 7s.
