Following their round of 32 exit from the 2026 Fifa World Cup, Senega have relived coach Pape Thiaw of his duties.

The Lions of Teranga were eliminated by Belgium 3-2 despite taking a 2-0 lead until the 85th minute.

They have since appealed the decision in the Court for Arbitration of Sport [CAS].

“After a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and prospects of the national team and in the best interests of Senegalese football, Pape Thiaw has been dismissed,” read part of the statement from the Senegal Football Federation (FSF).

Senegal were expected to put up a better performance at the World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico but won just one game – thrashing Qatar 5-0 in their final group match after losses to France and Norway and only qualified to the knock out stages as one of the eight third best ranked teams.
