Overview:

Rubongi Army Secondary School from Tororo won the boys’ overall title. For the girls, Kyambogo College School triumphed 57-33 over St Elizabeth Girls in the final.

For the first time, the Sport of Kho Kho was played at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Games.

This happened in Gulu during the 2026 USSSA Ball Games II.

As one of the demonstration games on the show, Kho Kho, lured numbers with enviable crowds clogging the Gulu High School playgrounds to witness first-hand the thrilling action.

National Council of Sports (NCS) administrator James Kasumba, flanked by the Kho Kho Uganda president, Mustafa Nsubuga were present to witness first-hand, the unforgettable piece of action.

A total of 13 teams, six in the boys’ category and seven in the girls’ division, took part in this historic inaugural KhoKho tournament.

By the close of business, Rubongi Army Secondary School from Tororo won the boys’ overall title. They overcame Serere Secondary School 51-27 in an exciting finale, well attended by ecstatic spectators.

To claim bronze, Labori High School beat Atiira Seed School 87-57 in the third-place playoff duel.

For the girls, Kyambogo College School triumphed 57-33 over St Elizabeth Girls in the final.

Serere Township School earned bronze after winning 61-40 over Olio Seed School.

Individual accolades:

Isaac Egau and the seasoned Grace Ojil of Labori High School and Kyambogo College School were the male and female Most Valuable Players (MVP’s), respectively.

Shadrack Okech (Rubongi Army) and Jesca Fridah Ojilong (Serere Township) won the best defenders’ accolades.

Lucky Jovian Stella (Kyambogo College School) and Lazalo Otim (Atiira Seed School) came top as best attackers.

Nsubuga, the president of Kho Kho Uganda, hailed the character of all the participating players, tagging the championship as historic, a groundbreaker for a bright future of the Kho Kho sport in Uganda.

“The Kho Kho schools championship during the USSSA Ball Games II in Gulu was a complete success. I salute all the players and schools. This is a historic moment for Kho Kho growth in Uganda, as we shall continue to hold similar events and other regional championships. The future is indeed bright,” Nsubuga remarked.

Kho Kho aside, the other demonstration games included Darts, Pickleball and Ludo.

The USSSA Ball Games II menu has Netball, Lacrosse, Rugby 7’s, Basketball (3X3), Baseball & Softball, Woodball, Dancesport, Volleyball, Mind Games (Darts, Ludo, Chess and Scrabble), Cricket, Athletics and Crosscountry, among others.
