Makerere College School defeated Mbarara High School 28-12 to win the schools’ National 7s at the USSSA Ball Games II.
MACOS left Negri College Gulu with a perfect record by annihilating every opponent in Group D on their way to the knockout stages of the tournament. The first real challenge for MACOS was at the quarterfinal stage when they came up against Central Schools’ arch-rivals, London College, whom they defeated 29-12.
In the semifinal, MACOS walked all over Kabukungwe Muslim School with a 24-00 victory to book a date with Mbarara High School in the final.
The final was a clash of regional giants with MACOS, the Central Schools champion, facing off with Mbarara High School, the Western Schools champion. Despite their efforts, Mbarara High School was simply not able to withstand MACOS, who emerged 28-12 champions.
Mbarara High School’s Kelly Divine Aheebwa was named the Boys’ Most Valuable Player while Mercy Atim of Kitgum Comprehensive School and the Rugby Tackling Life project was named the Girls’ Most Valuable Player.
Busoga College Mwiri won the bronze medal match and will join Mbarara High School and MACOS at this year’s FEASSA games at Morogoro, Tanzania, as Uganda’s representatives in the Rugby 7s, while Jinja S.S, St. Mary’s Kisubi and Namilyango College will compete in the Rugby 15s.
