FUFA has come out to release the assessment report for the stadia that will be used during the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
The report forms part of the Club Licensing process that checks on the status of clubs across several areas such as governance, infrastructure and business among others.
According to the report, only 7 of the 13 host venues meet the required standards. These include;
St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Hamz Stadium
Muteesa II Stadium
Kiira Police Road Arena
Lugazi Stadium
FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru
Rwamwanja Stadium
The report gives reasons why the other venue failed to meet the criteria.
BOMBO BARRACKS GROUND
- The field of play has bare patches and not levelled, and it needs general turf maintenance (spiking, levelling, pest management, raking, mowing, rolling and planting grass).
- The stadium does not have basic drainage channels to avoid flooding during the rainy season.
- The technical benches are in a very poor state and do not meet the required standards.
- The dressing rooms for both players and match officials are too small and do not have sufficient lockers; they do not meet the required standards.
- The stadium does not have a dedicated medical room for players and match officials.
- The sanitary facilities for both home and away fans are in a bad state.
- The internal perimeter wall on the lower side of the pitch needs to be worked on as it portrays a bad image of the stadium.
- The stadium does not have physical separation of fans. There is no secure entrance of the players from the dressing room to the field
of play.
The stadium does not have a media working area.
The surrounding areas and overall beautification of the stadium require significant improvement.
BUGONGA FISHERIES GROUND
- The field of play has bare patches, and it needs general turf maintenance (spiking, levelling, pest management, raking, mowing, rolling and planting grass).
- The stadium does not have basic drainage channels to avoid flooding during the rainy season.
- The technical benches are in a very poor state and do not meet the required standards.
- The stadium does not have a referees’ technical bench.
- The dressing rooms for both players and match officials are too small and do not have lockers; they do not meet the required standards.
- The stadium does not have a dedicated medical room for players and match officials.
- The stadium does not have sufficient sanitary facilities for both home and away fans in all sectors.
- The surrounding areas and overall beautification of the stadium require significant improvement.
- The stadium does not have a media working area.
- The stadium does not have electricity for security at night.
EBENEZER UNIVERSITY GROUND
The field of play has bare patches and requires general turf maintenance (spiking, levelling, raking, mowing, rolling, pest management, and grass
planting).
The ground lacks basic drainage channels to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
There are no technical benches for either team or for match officials.
There are no proper dressing rooms for either teams or for match officials.
The stadium does not have a dedicated medical room for players and match officials.
The stadium lacks sufficient sanitary facilities for both home and away fans across all sectors; the facilities that are available are in poor condition.
There is no internal perimeter fence around the stadium. The stadium does not have a media working area.
There is no permanent external perimeter fence around the stadium.
KIGEZI AL MADINA GROUND
The field of play has bare patches and requires general turf maintenance (spiking, levelling, raking, mowing, rolling, pest management, and grass
planting).
The ground lacks basic drainage channels to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
There are no technical benches for either team or for match officials.
There are no dressing rooms for either teams or for match officials.
The stadium does not have a dedicated medical room for players and match officials.
The stadium lacks sufficient sanitary facilities for both home and away fans across all sectors; the facilities that are available are in poor conditions.
The stadium does not have a media working area.
There is no permanent external perimeter fence around the stadium.
LUZIRA PRISONS GROUND
The field of play requires general turf maintenance, including spiking, levelling, pest management, raking, mowing, and rolling.
The basic drainage channels within the stadium are uncovered, posing a
significant safety hazard to players.
The technical benches are in a poor state of repair and do not meet the required standards.
The dressing rooms for both players and match officials are in a poor state of repair and do not meet the required standards.
The sanitary facilities for both home and away fans are in a poor state of repair do not meet the required standards.
The surrounding areas of the stadium require significant improvement in terms
of general beautification.
The stadium does not have a media working area.
A permanent external perimeter fence needs to be installed/fixed at the stadium.
MBALE CITY STADIUM
The field of play has bare patches, and it needs general turf maintenance (spiking, levelling, pest management, raking, mowing, rolling and planting grass).
The stadium does not have basic drainage channels to avoid flooding during the rainy season.
The technical benches are in a very poor state and do not meet the required standards.
The stadium does not have a referees’ technical bench.
The dressing rooms for both players and match officials do not meet the
required standards.
The stadium does not have a dedicated medical room for players and match officials.
The stadium does not have sufficient sanitary facilities for both home and away fans in all sectors.
The stadium does not have a media working area.
The surrounding areas and overall beautification of the stadium require
significant improvement and painting of the stands.
ROYALS PARK BUTEMA
Uneven Playing Surface: The playing surface has been found to be bumpy and uneven, which affects the quality of play and may pose injury risks to players.
Lack of Signage/Directional Signpost: From the point where, one branches off the main road to the stadium, there is no signpost to guide visitors to the facility.
Inadequate Dressing Room Lockers: The home team dressing room has very few lockers, most of which are non-functional. The away team changing room is in an even worse state, as it has no lockers.
Insufficient Showering Facilities in the Away Team Wing: The away team wing has only three functioning showers, which is significantly below the standard.
Inadequate Facilities of Convenience: The toilets and conveniences for both male and female users are poorly finished and lack doors entirely.
The stadium does not have a media working area.
Overgrown Bushy Stadium Surroundings: The stadium surroundings are heavily overgrown with thickets, leaving the entire area looking bushy and untidy.
MTN OMONDI STADIUM
The artificial playing turf at the stadium is significantly worn out and has deteriorated to a very poor state, of particular concern is the condition of the goal areas, which are in an extremely dangerous state that poses a serious risk
of injury to players.
The technical benches available at the stadium do not meet the required standards.
Floodlights assessment report indicates an average illumination of 503 lux, which does not meet the minimum average lux requirement stipulated in the stadium regulations.
