Prior to every season, FUFA conducts Club Licensing, a process that is aimed at football teams meeting the set standards. The key areas of Club Licensing include governance, infrastructure, sporting and business among others.
Ahead of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League, the process has been ongoing for the last two months with the FUFA Club Licensing Committee making both online and physical checks on the status of the 18 clubs.
Like it has been the norm over the last seasons, some have fully met the requirements, others partially while some have failed to fulfill them.
On Thursday, FUFA revealed that only 8 teams namely; KCCA, Vipers, NEC, SC Villa, URA, Police, Kigezi HomeBoyz and Ntugasaze qualify to get the full license.
Kitara, Entebbe UPPC, Maroons, BUL and Mbarara City have been given licenses with conditions while Kataka, Express, Lugazi, Blacks Power and UPDF haven’t met the criteria.
Lugazi failed to submit a Women Football Club, new comers Kataka and Blacks Power have issues to do with infrastructure and coaches who don’t meet the required qualifications while Express have no Grade Two academy and no proof of payment for the players.
According to a document issued by FUFA also reveals that the Club Licensing Committee concluded its assessment of stadiums proposed for use during the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season and MTN Omondi Stadium, Bugonga Fisheries Ground, Royals Park Butema, Kigezi Al-Madina Stadium, Mbale City Stadium, Ebenezer University Play Ground, Luzira Prisons Ground plus Bombo Barracks Playground were not approved to host league matches.
Clubs who use the aforementioned grounds have been advised to identify alternative approved stadiums to host their Uganda Premier League matches for the 2026/27 season by Thursday, 30th July 2026.
The new season is expected to kickoff on 28th August.
