The Tunisia Under 20 team has touched down in Uganda ahead of early preparations for the 2026 Barthes Trophy.
Tunisia’s U20 team is in Uganda to play two trial games against the Uganda U20 team before both sides embark on intense joint training sessions in August.
The first game shall be played on Sunday, 26th July at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, while the second game shall be played on Thursday, 30th July at a venue that is yet to be decided.
Uganda and Tunisia’s rugby relationship started in 2023 with two 15s games each for the Rugby Cranes and Lady Cranes in Tunisia. A Memorandum of Understanding was then reached by both countries for the growth of the sport on the continent.
According to a statement released by the Local Organizing Committee of the 2026 Barthes Trophy, the purpose of this particular visit is to strengthen technical and performance development through competitive and shared high-performance training.
“The Local Organizing Committee is honoured to host Tunisia prior to the tournament. These activities will also serve as dress rehearsal for the main event as we work to deliver one of Africa’s best organized rugby competitions. On behalf of LOC, I invite all Ugandans to support this significant initiative for the future of the sport,” a statement from the LOC Chairperson, Sarah Adong, partly reads.
The Tunisia women’s 7s team will also make the trip to Uganda in September for a high-performance camp with the Lady Cranes 7s ahead of the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s.
