Round of 32 (Welterweight division):

Uganda’s welterweight boxer Nuhu Batte outpunched Nigerian Abdulwahab Abdulramon during the round of 32 bout at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow city, Scotland on Friday, 24th July.
Batte won by an unanimous decision from all the judges 5-0, with dominance throughout all the three rounds.
The Ugandan won 29-26, 28-27, 29-26, 28-27 and 29-26.
Using his longer reach and greater mobility, Bomber Batte was aggressive throughout.
The strategy handsomely paid off as he overturned a first round scare.
He scored impressively from the all the judges’ cards to outscore the Nigerian over the next two, advance to the next round, and keep his and Uganda’s medsl hopes alive.
The Bombers will continue their campaign on Saturday when light heavyweight Alfred Ojok takes on Niue’s Anitelea Launiu, while Ibrahim Khemis faces Zambia’s Albert Ngulube.
Away from the boxing ring, Uganda’s women’s 3×3 basketball team commenced its campaign on Friday with group-stage matches against the Cayman Islands, Kenya and Jamaica.
Team Uganda trounced the Cayman Islands 21-07 in the opener, defeated Jamaica and completed the rout with a 21-5 victory over Kenya.
Melissa Akullo, Jane Asinde, Jamila Nansikombi and Perus Nyamwenge are the four players on Uganda’s Basketball team.
Uganda will also have athletes in action in para-powerlifting, swimming, and para-swimming as the country’s quest for medals begins across multiple disciplines.
Uganda is again in action on Saturday, 25th July 2026 in Boxing, Netball and Swimming.
