There is profound excitement among the different teams playing in the third edition of the Hamz Cup currently on-going at the Hamz stadium (Nakivubo War Memorial grounds) in the heart of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala.
This stems from the abrupt increment of the total prize money from Ug.Shs 100,000,000 to Ug.Shs 150,000,000.
The Ug.Shs 50,000,000 add-up was officially announced by Hakim Kasirye, a member of the tournament local organizing committee on Friday, 24th July 2026.
“Because of the love the people have shown at the Hamz Cup, the chairman Hamz Group of Companies Al Hajji Dr Hamis Kiggundu announced that the prize money be increased from Ug.Shs 100,000,000 to Ug.Shs 150,000,000.” Kasirye made the announcement before the excited team managers, representatives and the media at Hamz stadium during the press briefing.
The increased package has a direct impact onto the prize money per the top performers.
The champions will take home a cool Ug.Shs 50,000,000 with the runners up bagging Ug.Shs 25,000,000.
Bronze medalists take Ug.Shs 20,000,000 as the fourth team will earn Ug.Shs 15,000,000.
Each of the four losing quarter final teams will settle for Ug.Shs 10,000,000.
Individual winners:
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) will take home Ug.Shs 1,000,000 and so is the team with the largest fans’ contingent.
The best goalkeeper, top scorer, fair-play, best coach and two best media personalities will each pocket Ug.Shs 500,000.
The tournament lured as many as 32 teams; divided into the different pools (groups).
As the first round games near completion, every match day has brought energy, excitement and joy not only in the stands but also around the surrounding areas.
Entertainment aside, the tournament is a platform for talent showcase with many scouts, agents and coaches from different teams always keeping a keen eye on the players (most of them non-licensed and others in leagues below the FUFA Big League).
Celebrities from all walk of life; entertainment world (musicians, comedians and TikTok), sports and politics are also on the show, free of charge once you get access to the stadium.
