Vipers SC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Gor Mahia in the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026 at Pele Stadium, Kigali on Monday.
Gusto Mulongo was the hero of the day nodding home Ashraf Mandela’s delivery into the back of the net. The goal came late in added time to seal two wins in as many games.
It was a tight game from kick-off as the two sides went toe to toe in the physical encounter. While everyone thought it was a draw, the late goal changed the tides.
Yunus Sentamu beat his marker on the left flank, but his final delivery was far from required in the 18th minute.
Faruku Miya delivered a deadly ball in the area, but Hillary Mukundane’s effort was blocked by Gor Mahia’s Ebenezer Ocran.
In the 55th minute, Sentamu set up Miya, whose effort was slightly wide of the target by inches.
At the hour mark, Denis Lavagne introduced Gusto Mulongo, Odili Chukuwama and Usama Arafat for Isaac Ogwang, Sentamu and Milton Karisa.
Vipers came close in the 75th minute but Hillary Mukundane’s header went wide of the area after meeting Chukuwama’s delivery.
In added time, Mulongo’s strike beat Gor Mahia’s goalkeeper Humprey Katasi at the near post.
