Uganda’s first medal at the on-going 2026 Commonwealth Games was won by Husnah Kukundakwe in the sport of swimming.
The para-swimmer deservedly earned silver in the women’s 100M breaststroke SB8 final.
She clocked 1:26.20 during the finale won by England’s Brock Whiston who earned a new game’s record time of 1:22.05.
Another swimmer from England Lona Winnifrith won bronze with a time of 1:26.31.
Two Australian swimmers Alyssa Gillespie and Gemma Sellick were fourth and fifth respectively with 1:32.80 and 1:33.95.
England’s Isabella Haynes finish sixth overall with 1:34.35.
Kukundakwe has earned Uganda her first medal at the championship.
Uganda joins the likes of Cyprus, Jersey, Samoa, Nauru, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda, among the countries that have won one medal apiece.
By Monday evening, Australia was still in the lead with a massive overhaul of 59 medals, followed by England (29), Canada (21), Scotland (11), South Africa (11) and Nigeria (10).
