South Africa and Tanzania will once again face off, this time the 2026 WAFCON being the battlefield. It should be noted that the two sides faced off at the 2024 edition that was played last year in Morocco.
The aforementioned clash came at the group stage and ended in a one-all draw in Oujda. Opa Clement gave Tanzania the lead before Bambanani Mbane found the equalizer.
Both teams will be seeking a positive start to the tournament with their clash slated for Monday (8PM EAT) at the Moulay Rachid Stadium, Casablanca.
Banyana Banyana Head Coach Dr. Desiree Ellis expects a tough contest against the East African nation.
“The first match is very important as it sets the tone for the rest of the tournament, you have to go all out with guns blazing. Everything we have done, everything we have prepared was towards this game because you cannot prepare further than that without getting a good result. We have faced Tanzania a couple of times before and the games have been very tight, they can play and they bring a lot of physicality, but we have dealt with teams like these in past and we have prepared extremely well for the game. But what will be key is to keep a clean sheet and control the game,” said Dr Ellis as quoted by safa.net.
In the same group (Group B), Ivory Coast will play Burkina Faso at 11PM EAT.
