- Gor Mahia 1-1 Al Hilal [Gor wins 8-7 on pens]
Gor Mahia overcame Al Hilal of Sudan 8-7 on penalties to reach the final of the 2026 Cecafa Kagame Cup final in a thrilling match played at Pele stadium, Kigali.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time with the Kenyan champions playing the 30 minutes of extra time with a man less after they had midfielder Jackson Dwang sent off at the end of normal time.
K’Ogalo were dominant in the first half and took a lead in the 38th minute through an own goal but a few minutes later conceded a leveller by Ansumana Samura before the halftime whistle.
In the shootout, Gor Mahia missed their first attempt and were on the blink of exit but the Sudan giants also saw their decisive 5th penalty saved.
Again, Charles Akonnor’s men were the first to miss in the sudden death but luck struck again as Guy Bukasa’s charges also missed in succession.
In the end, Gor Mahia reached the promised land for the Friday final at Amahoro stadium where hosts’ Rayon Sport will be the opponents.
Gor Mahia had not reached the regional cup final since 2015 when they lost to Azam 2-0 in Dar es Salaam and will be looking to put an end to a 41- year wait to add on their three trophies.
The Kenyan giants are Kagame Cup winners in 1980, 1981 and 1985.
Al Hilal will now contest the third place off against South Sudan’s Jamus with $ 10,000 at stake while Gor Mahia will battle Rayon Sport for a trophy and $ 30,000. Losing finalists on Friday will bag $ 20,000.
