Retired FIFA female referee Catherine Wejuli Adipo was specially recognized with the lifetime achievement award during the Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards.
This was during the crowning ceremony for the month of July 2026 held at Nanjing Restaurant in Kololo, Kampala.
“I am humbled” an overwhelmed Adipo commented as she received the plaque from Isaac Mukasa, the executive director of Real Stars Agency.
“To be recognized after all these years when I retired comes as a shock but I am happy” she added.
Adipo, now a sports science lecturer at Kyambogo University made a humble appeal to the parents; to encourage their children take on sports; refereeing inclusive.
“As I was growing up, I played football. I was one girl among the boys in the family. My parents too encouraged me. I took on refereeing up to the international level. I therefore encourage the parents to give their children a helping hand” Adipo called.
Meanwhile, there were plaques given to the July top performers in Motorsport, Archery, Basketball and Swimming.
The rally crew of Hassan Alwi & Musa Nsubuga won in Motorsport for their triumph in the Soroti Rally.
Alwi who was flanked by his entire rally crew applauded the team members for the bravery and collective effort.
“Rally is team effort. You cannot do it alone. Therefore, I thank my co-drive and the rest of the crew members plus the International University of East Africa (IUEA) for the support” Alwi appreciated.
Alwi beat veteran Moses Lumala and Jonas Kansiime.
Para athlete Allan Precious Asiimwe, in a wheel chair was outstanding in Archery for winning gold in the Africa Archery championships held in Oran, Algeria.
“I am happy for this special award. It means a lot to me. I thank the Uganda ParaOlympic committee and my coaches for the support always” Asiimwe who hails from Kabale spoke in appreciation.
Asiimwe beat the duo of Bashir Mutyaba and Shiloh Ayebare to claim that award.
The Uganda 3X3 female basketball team that won silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow city, Scotland was also rewarded.
“We are happy for this award. We thank the organizers for thinking about us. Personally, I thank my teammates and coach, the Government through National Council of Sports (NCS) and Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) for helping us achieve this silver as we battled the best basketball teams in the world” Jane Asinde, team captain remarked.
Para-swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe, bronze medallist at the 2026 Commonwealth Games was also recognized.
