NEC Football Club sealed its slot in the semifinals of the 2026 FUFA Super 8 following a well-deserved 2-1 victory against UPPC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Thursday.
Richard Basangwa gave NEC an early lead shortly after kick-off. The forward’s brilliant touch guided James Jarieko’s delivery off the right flank into the net.
Five minutes later, Sharif Ssengendo forced NEC custodian Hannington Ssebwalunyo into a great save from close range.
Moro Swadick levelled matters in the 27th minute. The electric forward guided the ball past NEC’s goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo thanks to Julius Poloto’s delivery.
At the stroke of the opening stanza, Basangwa restored NEC’s lead with a brilliant finish, drilling a powerful low effort into the back of the net.
In the 62nd minute, NEC made a double change, introducing Enock Tumwesigye and Enrique Lubwama for James Jarieko and Pius Obuya.
Basangwa nearly completed a hat trick in the 76th minute, but his powerful flying effort rippled the side of the net as NEC came close.
Two minutes later, NEC made a double change, introducing Marvin Kavuma and Rashid Kawawa for Joseph Seremba and Samuel Ssekamatte.
At the end of the day, NEC came out of the clash with a victory to seal a place in the last four.
