Denis Lavagne has described Vipers’ Caf Champions League first round preliminary draw as good after avoiding big teams.
The Venoms, aiming to reach the group stages of the prime competition will face Mauritania’s Nouadhibou with the winner facing either Ivory Coast’s San Pedro or Rivers United of Nigeria in the pre-group round.
“I think it is a good draw but all teams in the Caf Champions league are difficult,” said Lavagne. “You have to play two good games and be very strong to reach the second round,” he added.
“But it is a good draw because we don’t play against big teams but it is 50-50 in this game but you have to be very good and strong to overcome this opponent.”
The former Coton Garua and CS Constantine head coach says he has already gathered information after the Mauritanian side although he says there is still time to learn more about them and their squad.
“For the moment, I have just got some information about this team, their squad but there is still more time to get information but I know it is a good team and so we have to prepare very well.”
Vipers were knocked out of the Cecafa Kagame Cup tournament in Kigali and face Nairobi United in a test game at Kitende on Saturday.
“We played two good games in the Cecafa and Nairobi United will give us a good test on the readiness of the team.
“For now, we are not 100-percent ready but I believe by the time we start the season, we shall be fully ready.”
KCCA’s season officially starts with a Fufa Super Cup clash against reigning Uganda Cup holders Kitara on August 22.
