Rwanda’s Rayon Sport are the 2026 Cecafa Kagame Cup winners after beating Kenya’s Gor Mahia 2-1 in the finale at Amahoro stadium, Kigali.
The decisive goal that hands the Rwandan giants their second title and ends a 28-year wait was scored by Daniel Muhoza in extra time following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
The hosts drew first blood at the half hour mark when Herman Junior Kameni magically connected inside the six-yard box diverting the ball from the path of goalkeeper Bryne Omondi.
Gor Mahia equalised in the 57th minute through Musa Sharif Sirengo and the game stayed at 1-1 till the completion of the 90th minute in a fully packed stadium.
In front of a capacity home crowd that rallied behind the team from the first whistle, Rayon Sport retook the lead seven minutes into the first half of extra time with an acrobatic volley from Muhoza who appeared to have been in an offside position at the time.

Defeat means Gor Mahia have now lost their two successive finals and missed an opportunity to end their regional trophy drought that dates as far back as 1985 when they last won the club championship.
Rayon Sport, who bag $ 30,000 in prize monies ended the game with a man down following a last-minute red card in extra time but it didn’t matter to thousands of fans not only in the stands but in Kigali and the country at large.
Elsewhere, Sudan’s Al Hilal edged South Sudan’s Jamus 2-1 in a third place play off to walk away with $ 10,000 and bronze medals.
