Uganda’s Baby Cricket Cranes won their second game at the Division 2 Qualifiers in an emphatic manner after putting Mozambique to the sword in a big win.
On the first day, Rwanda had set the benchmark for high scores after scoring 414 against Mozambique, and Uganda was reading from that script when they won the toss and elected to bat first.
Devansh Patel was the only batter not to cash in after falling early, but Abraiz Ali (34) and a second half-century for Sam Ahaisibwe (77) anchored the innings for Uganda before the former was run out.
However, the innings for Uganda was about the century for Robert Owili (132); the wicketkeeper-batter plundered 15 boundaries and three maximums on his way to his personal milestone. Larry Itagi (28) and Richard Sohera (32) pushed the total over the 400 line but fell short of Rwanda’s score of 414.
In the run chase, Mozambique was no match for the Ugandan bowlers and fell along the way for only 26. Richard Sohera (4/1) and Hamidu Munigwa (4/9) mopped the floor with Mozambique to complete an emphatic performance for Uganda.
The Baby Cricket Cranes picked their second win at the tournament, and with three games to go, one more win will help the team finish among the top three sides. A top three finish will be enough for the Baby Cricket Cranes to gain promotion to Division 1.
The team will take a break on Tuesday and will be back in action on Wednesday against Ghana.
