Uganda Premier League side NEC Football Club has signalled its title-challenging ambitions by securing the signature of Uganda Cranes forward Fahad Bayo.
The move was confirmed today, Wednesday, August 12, via the club’s official website.
“NEC FC is delighted to announce the signing of Uganda Cranes forward Fahad Bayo, who has joined the Diehards on a two-year contract,” the statement partly reads.
The 28-year-old striker joins the Bugolobi-based Uganda Premier League outfit on a two-year employment deal, completing a high-profile return to domestic football following six years competing across Africa and Europe.
Bayo’s return to the Uganda Premier League marks a significant milestone in his career.
He last played in the local top flight during the 2019/20 season, where his scoring prowess famously propelled Vipers SC to the league championship.
That outstanding campaign launched his journey abroad, taking him to Israeli Premier League clubs FC Ashdod and Bnei Sakhnin, followed by spells with MFK Vyškov in the Czech Republic, as well as stints in North Macedonia with KF Arsimi and Vardar Skopje.
By adding a seasoned international with 29 caps for the Uganda Cranes to their roster, NEC FC acquires proven goal-scoring firepower and vast tactical maturity.
The club, which finished strongly in the upper half of the league standings last season, views Bayo as the pivotal focal point needed in attack to spearhead their pursuit of major domestic trophies in the upcoming campaign.
