Excitement is building among Uganda’s young athletes following confirmation that the country will participate in the 2026 ANOCA Zone V Games, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya at Kenyatta University from August 24 to 28.
Youngsters across seven sporting disciplines are stepping up preparations for the regional multi-sport event, where they will have the opportunity to compete, gain international experience and showcase Uganda’s emerging sporting talent.
Uganda will compete in athletics, swimming, judo, cycling, tennis, beach volleyball and women’s 3×3 basketball.
The Games will bring together young athletes from the ANOCA Zone V region, with participating National Olympic Committees drawn from Burundi, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
ANOCA identifies Zone V as comprising 11 National Olympic Committees from Eastern Africa and the wider region.
For the Ugandan youngsters, the Games will be about more than winning medals. They provide an important platform to gain international competition experience, build confidence, interact with athletes from neighbouring countries and further develop their sporting careers.
With Nairobi now firmly in sight, preparations are gathering pace as Team Uganda gets ready to carry the national flag on the regional stage.
