Kenya continued its dominance in the Cross Country event at the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.
During the 23rd edition of these games ongoing in Morogoro, Tanzania, Kenya was unstoppable both in the secondary and primary schools’ clusters at a well-designed route within Morogoro Golf Course.
The Kenyans won gold in the girls’ 6KM and boys’ 8KM events for secondary schools; taking top honours in the girls’ 2KM and boys’ 4KM races for the primary pupils.
Girls 6KM:
Kenya earned gold, silver and bronze in the 6km for females with Venenza Chebet Masai of Kongit secondary school clocking 18:54.7 to cross the finishing line first.
Clare Cheruto from Bishop Louis Secondary School was second with a time of 18:58.1, and Naomi Chepkwemoi of Kibuk Secondary School claimed third place with 19:07.3.
Virtually the first six positions were claimed by Kenyans, with Tanzania’s Hellena Daniel Samja (Umagi Secondary School) finishing 7th (20:39.2).
Uganda’s Beliza Chebet from Masindi Army Secondary School was 8th with a time of 21:18.0.
Boys 8KM:
Kenya took gold with Emmanuel Kiprono (Kimuron Secondary School) after clocking 22:25.6.
Tanzanian Bernad Emanuel Geay (Umagi Secondary School) scooped silver with 22:46.8, and Kimuron Secondary School’s Wesley Kiplangat settled for bronze (22:51.8).
Uganda’s best performer was Cosmas Amumpire from Mbarara City in the 8th position with 23:34.2.
Primary section:
The primary pupils ran 2 KM for the girls, and once again Kenya had an enviable clean sweep.
Ruth Chemei (Cheptigi Primary School) earned gold with a time of 06:05.5 ahead of Pheline Chepkwemoi (Kongit) and Rehema Chepkorir (Tecla Lorupe), who posted 06:08.0 and 06:09.5 respectively.
Sarah Chebet (Joshua Cheptegei Primary School) was the best Ugandan in 8th place with a time of 6:25.4.
The boys in primary ran 4 KM. It was gold, silver and bronze for Team Kenya.
Robinson Primary School’s Abraham Kibet clocked 11:19.2 for gold.
He was closely followed by Davis Kiprono (Segot Primary School) with 11:20.4 and Solomon Kibet (Tecla Lorupe Primary School), who covered the distance in 11:22.7.
The best Tanzanian was Nicolas Thimote Isdory (Unyankanya Primary School) with 11:31.4, whilst the outstanding Ugandan came in 9th position through Kenty Kiprotich from Joshua
Cheptegei Primary School (12:09.8).
Meanwhile, during the main athletics (track and field) at the Jamhuri Stadium, Kenya dominated most events and clinched the most gold medals.
Thus far, Kenya has been a force at these games with dominance in Rugby (7’s and 15’s), Hockey (boys and girls), Scrabble (boys), Lacrosse (boys and girls) and beach soccer.
Uganda’s gold is assured in Netball, Table Tennis (boys and girls), Badminton (boys and girls), Scrabble (girls), beach soccer (girls), Tennis (boys) and Softball (girls).
The 2026 FEASSA Games received a financial boost of $90,000 from East African Development Bank (EADB).
The games take a break on Thursday for the nations and cultural day as well as the sports symposium at Cate Hotel, Morogoro.
Many semi-finals and finals will come on Friday, 21st August 2026 ahead of the grand climax on the subsequent day.
