The 2026 Coronation Regatta, dubbed “Empaka za Amaato ga Kabaka”, is set to take place on Saturday, 22nd August, at Bunjako Beach in Buwama, Mpigi District.
With His Majesty the King of the Buganda Kingdom, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, expected to grace this event, the final preparation visit to the host venue went well on Thursday.
Buganda Kingdom leaders, including Minister of Sports, Youth and Arts, Robert Serwanga, did a site inspection and had a strategic planning meeting.
Serwanga was joined by the head of the Kabaka’s Protection Unit, protocol officials, and dignitaries, flanked by the local organising committee team of the Buganda Royal Regatta headed by Ben Immanuel Misagga.
Several meetings and patrols were executed to ensure nothing is left to chance.
“The preparations for the 2026 Buganda Royal Regatta are in high gear. Everything has been put in place, and we are ready to go for a successful event,” Misagga said.
Security has been guaranteed, entry points will be well organised, and organisers have promised affordable meals and plenty of drinks.
Boda bodas and phones for the treasure hunt are already secured, and everything looks fantastic.
Entry to the venue is Shs 10,000, with the first 100 fans given coupons for the treasure hunt to win varying prizes, such as phones, motorcycles and many more.
The event will be graced by the top performing Masaza teams from the semifinals held at Nakiwogo Beach in Entebbe earlier this year.
Traditional canoeing is one of Buganda Kingdom’s oldest sports fully embraced by the previous Kabakas.
The legacy under His Majesty Muwenda Mutebi II continues.
