Netball (Friday, 21st August):
- Gold Medal Match: St Mary’s Kitende (Uganda) 51-41 Hamdan Islamic School (Uganda)
St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende beat fellow Ugandan side Hamdan Islamic School Nakifuma 51-41 to lift the Netball trophy at the 2026 FEASSA Games in Morogoro on Friday, 21st August.
Throughout the four quarters, the Wakiso District-based school was dominant during the finale played at the Highlands Sports Complex courts, also watched by Dr Lawrence Mulindwa, the director of St Mary’s Kitende.
Towering Angelina Nyemok, the goal shooter, was outstanding with a bulk of the goals, supplemented by Goal Attacker Hadijjah Basalirwa.
St Mary’s Kitende led 28-22 by the half-time break. They maintained the six-goal lead 40-34 after quarter three heading to the final stanza.
In the final quarter, the margin was further stretched to a 10-goal difference with the final score reading 51-41.
“I want to thank my teammates for the collective work well done right from the training sessions held, friendly matches, qualifiers until we reached here. I am happy that we all worked hard. I thank the coaches and team management, plus our director, Dr Lawrence Mulindwa,” Teopista Achenge, the team captain.
This is the 21st Netball title that St Mary’s Kitende has won at the FEASSA Games.
Hamdan Islamic Secondary School was playing in their maiden final at the East African Games.
Besides Netball, the 2026 FEASSA Games also have Handball, Basketball (3X3 and 5X5), Rugby (7s and 15s), Beach Soccer, Baseball & Softball, Cricket, Lawn Tennis, Lacrosse, Volleyball, Hockey, among others.
The indoor games include Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Swimming, Goalball and others.
The FEASSA theme is “Nurturing Sports Talent”.
Hosts Tanzania were joined by teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Burundi.
