Kenya won the overall title of the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games hosted in Morogoro, Tanzania.
These games concluded on Saturday, 22nd August 2026 at the historic Jamhuri Stadium, overlooking the picturesque Uluguru ranges in the eastern part of the country.
Kenya registered 20 gold medals compared to Uganda’s 19 during the neck-to-neck race.
Kenya’s gold came from athletics (boys and girls), Cross-country (boys and girls), Rugby 15s (boys and girls), Rugby 7s (boys and girls), Hockey (boys and girls), Scrabble (boys), Lacrosse (boys and girls), Beach Volleyball (girls), Chess (boys and girls), Basketball (3×3 boys), Tennis (girls), Volleyball (girls) and Handball (boys).
Uganda’s 19 gold medals were in Netball, Table Tennis (boys and girls), Badminton (boys and girls), Scrabble (girls), Beach Soccer (girls), Softball, Beach Volleyball (boys), Swimming (boys and girls), Football (Boys and girls), Basketball 3×3 (girls), Handball (Girls), Baseball, Tennis (Boys), Volleyball (boys), Basketball (5X5 girls).
Meanwhile, Tanzania was the overall top performers in the Primary Schools and Special Needs cluster.
The official closing ceremony was held at the Jamhuri stadium moments after the epic boys’ football final where St Mary’s Kitende defeated hosts Morogoro Secondary School 2-1.
The top performers per sport received medals and trophies; purchased by the FEASSA’s latest partner on board; East African Development Bank (EADB).
EADB offered a sponsorship of $90,000 that also entailed procurement of all the team kits.
FEASSA president Justus Mugisha lauded all the respective Governments and schools’ associations for the different member countries, schools, parents, students, coaches, media and other stakeholders.
Mugisha announced that Rwanda (Kigali) will host the 2027 championship, which will be marking 24 editions.
Rwanda had last hosted in 2023 (in Huye) before the games crossed to Uganda (Bukedea) and Kakamega (Kenya) in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi all took part in the 23rd edition in Morogoro.
