Uganda’s growing talent pipeline to Danish football has produced another move after Elvis Torach joined Danish champions AGF Aarhus from Masaka-based El Cambio Academy on his 18th birthday.
AGF announced the arrival of the highly-rated defender on Monday, with Torach becoming the third player from El Cambio to move to Aarhus under a long-term partnership that is increasingly opening a pathway for Ugandan youngsters into European football.
Torach will initially join AGF’s U19 squad as he continues his development, following in the footsteps of fellow Ugandans James Bogere and Hamuza Sengooba, who became the first El Cambio players to sign professional contracts with the Danish club.
“On his 18th birthday, Elvis Torach can officially call himself an AGF player,” the club announced.
“Elvis becomes the third player from El Cambio Academy to make the journey from Uganda to Aarhus, where he will join our U19 squad.”
The move is another significant step for Torach, who was among Uganda’s standout players during the country’s historic appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar last year.
Uganda reached the round of 16 at their maiden U-17 World Cup and finished 14th among the 48 participating nations, with FUFA listing Torach among the players who distinguished themselves during the campaign.
Torach had already been on AGF’s radar before completing the move. He travelled to Denmark for trials alongside Bogere, Sengooba and Isma Magala Mulala, with all four having been part of Uganda’s U-17 national team set-up.
His eventual switch provides further evidence of the growing importance of the partnership between AGF and El Cambio.
AGF entered into a 15-year cooperation agreement with the Masaka academy in 2024, establishing El Cambio as one of the Danish club’s recruitment and development channels.
According to AGF’s 2024/25 annual report, seven boys and girls from the academy had visited the Danish club during that financial year, while three AGF coaches were stationed in Uganda to assist in developing the 68 youngsters then based at El Cambio.
The relationship has already produced its biggest success through Bogere. The Uganda Cranes forward progressed from El Cambio to AGF and has since broken into the Danish champions’ senior side.
El Cambio says Bogere and Sengooba were the first two academy graduates to sign professional contracts with AGF, with Bogere subsequently progressing to the Superliga first team.
Bogere was part of the AGF team that won the Danish championship last season and scored an important late goal during their title run in.
His progress has continued this season, strengthening the argument that the Uganda-Denmark partnership can provide more than simply European exposure for emerging players.
For Torach, however, the immediate challenge will be different. Rather than being rushed towards senior football, the defender will start with AGF’s U19s, giving him time to adjust to a new country, playing environment and the tactical and physical demands of Danish football.
AGF describes El Cambio as its main academy partner, with the Danish club providing technical football expertise while creating opportunities for talented players to pursue professional careers in Denmark.
