Busoga College Mwiri continued its quest for the 21st Schools Cricket Week crown with a grinding result against rivals St John’s Kauga in a repeat of last year’s final.

Mwiri are in Group A of the Super 8 alongside Jinja SSS and Lango College. The defending champions needed a result like this to send a message to the rest of the competition that they will not give up their title easily.

They will face their Eastern rivals, Jinja SSS, in a fierce battle and one that will guarantee the winner a semifinal berth. Jinja SSS put Lango College to the sword, and four-time winners will count on their experience to help them win a fifth title.

In the other Super 8 games, in a western derby, Ntare School prevailed over Masaka SS; the win puts Ntare School in a good position to push for a semifinal place with games against Shree Uganda and Soroti SS to come for them. Shree Uganda are favourites in Group B of the Super 8, but they will need to be at their best against debutants Soroti SS.

In the morning, the group stage formalities saw Ndejje SS picking up their first win of the tournament against Good Heart SS while the Rwenzori derby ended in favour of Kasese SS. Gulu High School thumped Kira College Butiki while newcomers Uganda Martyrs Sonde and Rwenzori High School remain winless.
