Uganda’s representatives Kawempe Muslim have booked a slot into the final of this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers after defeating CBE in the semifinals on Saturday.
In the game played at the Kigali Pele Stadium, the Valley Warriors cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win to book a berth into the final.
Jovia Nakagolo, Agnes Nabukenya and own goal by CBE’s defender Tigist Adane guided the Ugandan Champions to victory.
The result came as sweet revenge for Kawempe against Ethiopia’s CBE who had eliminated them at the same stage two years ago.
It should be noted that the two teams also faced off in the group stages of this year’s edition and Kawempe were victorious courtesy of Nabukenya’s penalty goal.
In today’s game, it was Nakagolo who fired the Valley Warriors into the lead in the 17th minute, finishing from closing range when Nabukenya pressed high to win possession and poke the ball into the path of the former.
Kawempe Muslim were able to double their advantage ten minutes after restart with CBE defender Tigist scoring into her own net in an effort to clear the ball away from Nakagolo.
18 minutes from time, skipper Nabukenya put the icing on the cake with the third goal capitalizing on failure by CBE to clear their lines from the initial long throw in by Samalie Nakacwa.
Kawempe become only the second Ugandan team to reach the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers final, following She Corporate who made it in 2022.
The Ayub Khalifa coached team now await for the winner between Kenya Police Bullets and Yei Joint Stars to determine the team they will face in the final on Monday.
Note should be taken that only the Champion gets the sole ticket to represent the region in the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
