Express put up a spirited display to overcome KCCA as the two teams faced off on Friday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. Two second-half goals from Isaac Wagoina and Derrick Ddungu, aka Rickman, guided the Red Eagles to victory.
Ddungu, popularly known as Rickman, was over the moon with the performance and result, indicating this could be a spark they wanted going forward.
“First of all, I would like to thank God for this opportunity, and my coach, who has been with me since I was 12; he started with me and gave me this opportunity. This moment is remarkable; it is fortunate or unfortunate that I had to score against KCCA, but that is football,” he started before adding, “When we lost to BUL, we had to get back to the drawing board and see how best we improve, and thankfully there was a good response today against KCCA, which I believe this is a spark that we needed.”
Ddungu came on in the 85th minute, replacing Steven Yiga, and it only took him seven minutes to get onto the scoresheet. Asked what coach Morley Byekwaso told him before coming on, he said, “The coach told me to go and do what I can do, so I went there and did my best. When I scored, it felt blurry, and I cannot describe how I felt at that moment.”
Express will shift focus to get another tough fixture coming ahead, where they will visit arch rivals SC Villa on Wednesday next week.
