Uganda emerged Champions in the Boys’ category of the CAF African Schools Football CECAFA Qualifiers after edging hosts Rwanda in the final.
Represented by Amus College, Uganda cruised to victory courtesy of Kennedy Okwi’s solitary goal.
The triumph came with a cash prize of $100,000 (about USHS 37 Million) for Amus College while the runners up Rwanda got $75,000 courtesy of Motsepe Foundation who finance the tournament.
Vincent Kizza Mawanda from Uganda was named the Most Valuable player of the tournament . His teammates Stuart Mukisa emerged as the best goalkeeper while Kennedy Okwi finished as the tournament top scorer.
In the Girls’ category, Tanzania defeated Kenya 3-0 to emerge Champions with goals coming from Salah Msagala, Eva Maiope and Anna Pascal.
In the Play-off matches to decide which teams finish third, Uganda defeated Rwanda 2-0 in the Girls category, while Tanzania stopped South Sudan 2-0 in the Boys category. Each of the teams that came third walked home with a cash prize of $50,000.
Uganda (Boys) and Tanzania (Girls) will now represent CECAFA at the CAF African Schools Football Championship finals slated for later this year where winners from different regions of the continent compete for the grand prize.
