The early chapters of the 2026-27 Uganda Premier League season have tossed out the script, setting the stage for a blockbuster collision at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
On Tuesday, 15th September 2026, table toppers BUL FC welcome joint frontrunners Blacks Power FC in a titanic early season duel where two unblemished 100 per cent records hang in the balance.
Both sides enter the fray having swept aside every obstacle in their opening three encounters to amass a maximum of nine points apiece, transforming what looked like a routine autumn fixture into an early season battle for supremacy.
For the Eastern giants BUL FC, the campaign has exploded into motion. Sitting proudly at the summit of the 18-team division, the hosts have fused clinical finishing with stern defensive organisation, racking up a league-high nine goals while conceding just two for a commanding seven-goal difference.
Forward Derrick Byabachewzi has stolen the early headlines, spearheading the attack with a brilliant hat-trick that has electrified the Eastern giants’ frontline.
Having masterfully navigated both home comforts and hostile away fixtures, BUL rolls into Njeru riding a towering wave of momentum, bolstered further by the return of defensive stalwart Walter Ochora to full fitness.
“We have gone through this training, and everyone is ready for tomorrow,” BUL head coach Alex Isabirye reflected ahead of the clash. “We all know that Blacks Power is one of those teams which have a good run, and it won’t be easy for us, but as we all know, we are at home, and we also need the points. The game will be hard for both sides, but we have a plan, and we shall come out victorious.”
Standing right across the tactical divide are the resilient visitors, Blacks Power FC. Fresh off capturing the FUFA Big League title last season, the top-flight returnees have made a seamless, sensational transition back to elite competition. Tied at the summit with nine points, Simon Peter Mugerwa’s side sits at number two, separated from BUL solely by a three-goal difference.
Unlike BUL’s high-scoring exhibitions, the “Black Warriors” have built their success on gritty defensive discipline and clutch execution. They opened their campaign with consecutive 1-0 clean sheet victories over Ntugasaze FC and Police FC, before showing true championship mettle in a hard-earned 2-1 triumph away at Maroons FC. Forward Andrea Ogwal paces the attack with two goals, heavily supported by the invaluable experience of veteran forward Dickens Okwir.
With an impending international break looming large, Blacks Power head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa emphasised his squad’s unrelenting hunger to sign off in style.
“Tomorrow’s game is another opportunity for the team to come and play a good game, a good performance,” Mugerwa stated. “As we look for the result, I told you at the start that we came into this league to establish ourselves, and we have done so well in the last three games. But BUL is another challenge. I know they are performing well; it’s a very young team and very competitive. We want to give ourselves an opportunity tomorrow to end on a high note.”
