NEC earned a comfortable 4-1 win over URA on Tuesday in Lugogo to return to the winning trail. The Diehards were held to a frustrating goalless draw away to Mbarara City in their previous outing.
In today’s game, NEC eased past URA despite the latter taking an early lead. On pitch, it is only the home side that looked interested and showed hunger.
For URA, not even an early lead through Isma Mugulusi provided a spark, instead they were casual in play and blunt going forward.
NEC on the other hand didn’t frown even when they conceded just after two minutes, instead they put up a spirited comeback that saw them score three goals before the break.
Richard Basangwa, Enrique Lubwama and James Jarieko were all on target in the first half before Basangwa got one more after recess to put the icing on the cake.
Jarieko got the equalizer in the 14th minute when Emmanuel Ajo teed him up.
NEC then went ahead to grab two quick goals towards the end of the first half with Basangwa firing home in the 42nd minute off Lubwama’s assist before the youngster also got onto the score sheet when he netted from a rebound after goalkeeper Chrispus Kusiima had saved Ajo’s initial effort.
At the start of the second half, URA responded by making a triple change, bringing on Marvin Wambuga, Noel Namanya and Eric Okutu in places of Nelson Ssenkatuka, Moses Aliro and Shalifu Lubega.
The changes did not bring any positive impact and instead, NEC stretched their lead further with Basangwa getting his second of the day, four minutes after the break.
Moses Waiswa lost possession in the middle of the park and NEC punished them on transition with Basangwa finishing from close range.
The win means NEC are second on the table with ten points from four games, same as SC Villa who beat Kigezi HomeBoyz 3-0 at Wankulukuku.
URA on the other hand drop to tenth position with three games from as many games.
The two teams will return to action next month after the international break with hosting KCCA FC on 9th October while be at home a day earlier to Express FC.
