Uganda’s Cricket Cranes picked up their fifth win at the ILT20 Cup in Rwanda. It wasn’t pretty, but they got the job done against Botswana.
A slight drizzle in the morning delayed the start of play, and when play resumed, Botswana won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Charles Mushemeza and Cosmas Kyewuta returned to the line up in the place Cyrus Kakuru and Anas Baig from the side that won against Sierra Leone.
Botswana didn’t offer much resistance with the bat; the resistance from Vino Balakrishnan (36) and Abel Keganne (42) was the only standout in their innings. Cosmas Kyewuta (3/26) and Joseph Baguma (3/20) were the standout bowlers for Uganda.
In the run chase, Fahad Mutagana failed to trouble the scorers, but Robinson Obuya (32) and Charles Mushemeza (39) scored briskly until both of them lost their wickets with the win in sight.
Gerald Olipa continued his rich vein of form, but the finishing job was left to Riazat Ali Shah and Kenneth Waiswa as Uganda brought up its fifth win in six games so far.
The top two sides in the five-nation event will qualify for the final on Saturday. Uganda is in position to take one of the two spots, while Kenya remains the only unbeaten side in the tournament.
