The opening round for the 2026 Pearl of Africa (POA) Golf series in Entebbe is on Thursday, 17th September at the par-71 Entebbe Club.

Following months of a dry spell that had left most parts of the fairways dry, rains eventually set in on the Pro-Am day.

Play was suspended for some time to allow the weather to dry up before it continued.

The rains continued on the morning of the opening round for the main championship.

“The rains can be good or bad sometimes. It depends on how you approach the course,” South African pro Thimba Toto Junior, who shot 7-under-64 during the Pro-Am, stated.

Thimba had 10 birdies during the Pro-Am, 3 bogeys and the rest par scores.

He teed off round one with Kenya’s David Wakhu and a Uganda national team player, Abdul Kakeeto.

The field has several Sunshine Tour players and some of Africa’s finest professional golfers.

Uganda’s most in-form professional Ronald Rugumayo approaches round one with Klan Coetzer from South Africa and a lady amateur Harriet Kitaka.

The Pro-Am witnessed a hole-in-one shot from Daniel Kalungi on the par-3 hole 12.

With the cutline anticipated to be competitive after two rounds (36 holes), the golfers are all eyeing a promising start on the opening day.

Uganda Golf Union (UGU), Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Entebbe Club, Sunshine Development Tour, East African Swing, Betway Tour and others are all strategic partners.

This is Uganda’s first Official World Ranking professional golf tournament under the Sunshine Development & BET Tour.
