The Uganda Handball Super League burst back into life at the weekend, and the second-round opening wasted little time delivering drama, big scoring performances and a nail-biting finish at Old Kampala Hall.
After taking a break in July, the 2026 Uganda Handball Super League resumed on Sunday, September 13, with teams immediately back into the fight for valuable points as the second half of the season got underway.
The men’s division provided perhaps the day’s biggest drama, with Prisons HC holding off Evergreen HC 33–32 in a one-goal thriller.
Evergreen appeared to have the upper hand at the interval, taking a slender 19–18 lead into the break. Prisons, however, produced the stronger second-half performance to turn the game around and eventually claim the narrowest of victories.
At the heart of the contest was Prisons’ Michael Okello, who led his side’s scoring with 10 goals. Evergreen’s Timothy Nobert Okolimong was equally influential, finding the net 12 times in a spirited individual performance, although his effort was not enough to secure victory.
If the Evergreen-Prisons encounter was decided by a single goal, the other men’s fixture could not produce a winner at all.
Kampala University HC and Makerere University HC shared the spoils after an absorbing 37–37 draw.
Kampala University entered half-time with a 22–19 advantage, but Makerere refused to surrender. The visitors fought back in the second half, matching their opponents goal for goal and eventually forcing a share of the points.
Kampala University’s Ismail Kabugu stood out with 11 goals, while Makerere’s David Ainamani led his side with six. The result underlined just how closely matched the two university sides were after 60 minutes.
The women’s division produced the most emphatic result of the weekend, with Prisons HC dismantling Mbogo High School HC 55–12.
Prisons were ruthless from the opening whistle, racing into a 24–5 half-time lead before extending their advantage even further after the restart.
Tabingwa Claire was the standout performer, scoring 12 goals, while Faiza Wandria contributed eight as Prisons demonstrated their attacking depth.
For Mbogo High School, Joyce Otil Ageno-Rwot was the leading scorer with 10 goals despite her team’s heavy defeat.
Makerere University HC also found the going tough against Nkajja HC, who secured a 32–22 victory.
Nkajja established control early, leading 17–10 at half-time before completing a 10-goal victory. Moureen Driciru was the star of the contest, scoring 12 goals, while Aisha Nalukwago finished with seven for Makerere.
The weekend programme also featured Soroti Natives HC losing to Kyengeza Bees HC 00 – 10.
With Matchday 24 now in the books, the second round has wasted no time reminding fans of the intensity of Uganda’s top-flight handball.
The league continues this weekend, with teams now looking to build on their opening second-round performances as the battle for points and the ultimate trophy gathers pace.
