Moses Nkata has warned URA Ladies Football Club that life in the FUFA Women Super League will be a different ball game from the Elite League. The Tax Collectors enter Uganda’s top flight for the first time on Sunday, but their coach knows an unbeaten promotion campaign will count for little once they face the established sides.
“We are trying to make the players a very good, stable team, and they show in training that they can manage to do it,” Nkata said.
“We are still going forward with the preparation because we know this is a different level team.”
URA were unbeaten throughout their FUFA Elite League campaign, a run that earned them promotion. But Nkata is demanding more from his players before they face KCCA Women FC at Hamz Stadium – Nakivubo at 4 pm.
“Our team is coming from the Elite League, and the players should know that the level is different,” he stressed.
The Tax Collectors have not sat back on their promotion. They have moved to strengthen the squad with experience, bringing in players who know what it takes to compete at the highest level of Ugandan women’s football.
Crested Cranes star Zaina Namuleme joined from Rwandan side Rayon Sport Women FC on a two-year deal. She has also previously played for Kampala Queens and Makerere University Ladies Women FC.
Shamusa Najjuma followed from Kampala Queens on a two-year contract, while experienced defender Patience Nabulobi, popularly known as Muchina, also arrived from Kampala Queens on a two-year deal.
Nkata expects the trio to give his youthful side a different edge.
“On the new signings, we expect Namuleme to add something new, Shamusa Najjuma too, plus Patience Nabulobi. They have all been in powerful teams before, and we expect them to add something different when they blend with youngsters,” he said.
Elizabeth Nakigozi has meanwhile extended her stay for another two years, preserving some of the continuity that carried URA to promotion, and she believes the groundwork has been done.
“As URA, we have prepared ourselves well. Our management and coaches have done everything possible to see that we are together, trained together, so that whatever they have instilled in us is done well,” Nakigozi said.
Now comes the real test! KCCA Women, formerly Kampala Queens, await URA on Sunday in a fixture that will immediately show how well the newcomers have adapted to the demands of the top flight.
Nkata, however, is thinking beyond survival.
“The goal is to build a team that will put and keep URA FC in the top teams in the top flight women’s League in Uganda. I think when you build a good team you can even win the trophy,” he said.
The 2026/27 FUFA Women Super League season kicks off on Saturday, September 19, when reigning champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC host newly promoted Jinja United WFC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, at 4 pm.
Sunday’s other matches will see Makerere University WFC host Amus College WFC at Nsibirwa Play Ground, Lady Doves FC face Uganda Martyrs H/S WFC at Katusabe Dove Play Ground, Rines SS WFC take on She Maroons FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, while She-Corporate FC host St. Noa Girls-Zana FC at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
