It is history in the making as Patricia Arago completed her transfer to Lithuania’s top-tier entity, Kaunas Acme Zalgirls Handball Club.
Until her transfer, Arago was a player at Police Women’s Handball Club in the Uganda Handball National League.
The 21-year-old right-cum-left back has also been a student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.
Arago has since travelled and already settled in Lithuania, training with her new teammates at Kaunas Acme Zalgirls Handball Club.
The International Transfer Certificate (ITC), a key document, was also acquired in collaboration with the Uganda Handball Federation (UHF) and her mother club, Police Women Handball Club.
She is expected to continue with her Human Resource Bachelor’s degree studies in Lithuania at the Lithuania University of Sports Science.
“This is historic and a dream come true that a Ugandan handball player moves to an elite European club. Arago is a big inspiration to many upcoming handball players in the country and a breakthrough move for Ugandan handball in general,” Azizi Yakoub, the Police Women Handball Club head coach, speaks of the player’s dream move.
For starters, Arago commenced her career at Kawanda Secondary School where she completed her Advanced Level examinations before joining Uganda Christian University.
The direct move to a top European professional club for Arago is the first for any Ugandan player.
She joins a male player, Anthony Lamu, who features for Rwanda’s APR Handball Club, among Uganda’s only handball exports.
