Morley Byekwaso believes Express are on the right track after the Red Eagles dug deep to hold Kitara to a 1-1 draw at Hamz Stadium on Thursday.

Express fell behind to Frank “Zagga” Tumwesigye’s 23rd-minute strike but refused to buckle, with Nicholas Jjonga restoring parity on the stroke of halftime.

The second half produced half-chances at both ends, but neither side could land the knockout blow.

For Byekwaso, the fightback was another sign of progress against a Kitara side he rates among the country’s best.

“I’m extremely happy having played a better team like Kitara. They are one of the strongest teams in the league and in the country,” Byekwaso said.

The Express coach was also pleased with how quickly his players have responded to a new regime, having had only two months of preparation.

“What we have done in a short period of time, through the preparation, which lasted for now two months, is wonderful,” he said.

“I praise the boys for the work done, but we are still pushing, and I know the future will tell.”

The point takes Express to four points from four games, while Kitara remain without a league victory after two draws.

Kitara’s night carried another concern as Patrick Henry Kaddu and Isaac Amutuhaire limped off injured.

The two forwards now face a race against time to recover for Kitara’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
