Shakirah Nyinagahirwa

With a heart full of gratitude and a radiant smile, Shakira Nyinagahirwa marked her long-awaited return to competitive football on Saturday, helping Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC launch their FUFA Women Super League title defence with a commanding 3-0 victory over newcomers Jinja United WFC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Reflecting on her return from a lengthy injury layoff, the forward expressed profound relief and appreciation for the milestone.

“First of all, I want to thank the Almighty Allah who has enabled me to be back on the pitch. This is my first season after a long injury, and I thank Him that we have been able to win 3-0 in our home game. It’s a good start, and I want to assure my fans and my coaches who have entrusted me with an opportunity that more is coming,” Nyinagahirwa said.

The defending champions wasted no time asserting their dominance, leaving Jinja United shell-shocked in the opening exchanges.

Latifah Nakasi opened the scoring with a clinical finish in just the second minute. Before the newcomers could catch their breath, Jovia Nakagolo doubled the advantage a minute later, punishing a sluggish start from the top-flight debutants.

Holding a comfortable two-goal cushion, Kawempe dictated the tempo for the remainder of the match. The victory was put beyond doubt in the 69th minute when debut substitute Belinda Hope Nabawanuka stepped off the bench to net the third and final goal, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 triumph.

While Kawempe enjoys an ideal start to their 2026-27 campaign, Jinja United face a steep learning curve in the top flight.
