St Noa Girls School secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory against She Corporate in their FUFA Women Super League opener at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, on Sunday.
Giovana Aketowang proved to be the hero, scoring the decisive goal to ensure the Zzana-based side collected all three points on matchday one.
The visitors hit the ground running and broke the deadlock in just the sixth minute.
Aketowang capitalised on early pressure, calmly tapping home from close range to give St Noa an early lead.
She Corporate rallied in search of an immediate response and nearly levelled matters nine minutes later.
Mary Jane Ithungu found space off a slick Cisy Nakate pass, but her effort flew over the crossbar in the 15th minute.
St Noa remained dangerous coming out of the break. Five minutes into the second half, Aketowang tried her luck from distance, but She Corporate goalkeeper Esther Akite gathered the long-range strike with ease.
Despite a flurry of tactical substitutions from both managers in the second half, the scoreline remained unchanged through a tight, physical contest.
Looking ahead, St Noa will hit the road again to face KCCA FC Women at the Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Saturday, September 26.
Meanwhile, She Corporate will aim to bounce back when they lock horns with Jinja FC.
