URA Ladies FC head coach Moses Nkata has urged his squad to swiftly put their opening-day defeat behind them and focus on the steep learning curve ahead following a 3-0 loss to KCCA Women FC in their FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) opener.
The Tax Collectors endured a stern test in their historic maiden top-flight appearance at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
Despite early intent, URA Ladies found themselves on the back foot against an experienced KCCA side that clinically put the game out of reach through a sharp double from Kamiyati Naigaga and a goal from Rinah Ariho.
The fixture marked a monumental milestone for the club, with several squad members getting their first taste of top-tier football.
New club captain Zaina Namuleme led out a revamped starting lineup that featured debutants Shafiga Tamisi, Lydia Nandyera, Patience Nabulobi, and Beatrice Kyokushaba.
While the scoreline highlighted the tactical sharpness required at this level, Coach Nkata remains steadfast, viewing the performance as an essential stepping stone rather than a total setback.
“We have taken the lessons from this game. It was a tough result for us, but we have to remain positive, correct the mistakes and work harder,” Nkata said.
“For some of these players, this is their first experience at this level, so the most important thing now is to learn, improve and respond in the next game,” he added.
Transitioning into the top flight comes with intense physical and mental demands and Nkata’s emphasis on resilience aims to ensure his new-look team isn’t demoralised early in the campaign.
The debutants showed flashes of potential but defensive lapses and transitional speed proved to be the deciding factors against KCCA’s polished attack.
The Tax Collectors now turn their attention to their second assignment against Makerere University Women FC, where Nkata will expect a disciplined tactical response and a sharper edge as URA Ladies look to claim their first top-flight points.
