As Uganda battles Sudan in the first semifinal clash of the 2026 CECAFA U-20 championship at Uhuru Stadium, much is at stake.

The victor of this contest will qualify for the upcoming AFCON U-20 Championship due in Ghana, West Africa.

The duel comes barely days after these two countries clashed in a Group B contest with Uganda winning 1-0 courtesy of Amour Munogera’s solitary goal.

Uganda’s explosive wide man Elvis Opakrwoth, one of the team’s talismans, anticipates a clash of titans in the semifinal battle.

Opakrwoth, a student at the newly crowned FEASSA Champions St Mary’s Kitende, dubs the game a do-or-die.

“This will be another game altogether,” he opens up. “Since the two countries faced off, there is a sketch of how one plays, and this makes it even harder. It will be a do-or-die,” he adds.

Uganda opened with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Djibouti before triumphing 1-0 over Sudan in the second game.

Against Djibouti, Uganda scored through Isima Mulala Magala and Genesis Ocen Odiya, who each got a brace.

Sudan, who also beat Djibouti 3-0, finished as the second-placed side in the three-team group contest.

The other semifinal comes at 4 PM when the host country, Tanzania, will square up against Burundi to determine who faces Uganda or Sudan in Thursday’s final.

Tanzania has been ruthless, scoring 7 goals and conceding none during the Group A engagements.
