On the administration part, Matovu is a former SC Villa treasurer where he served around 2013 until 2014 and at the time of his death, he was serving as a Trustee for the most successful football club in the country.
Over a month after losing their captain David Owori in an attack by thugs, SC Villa have lost their Members Trustee Moses Matovu of the Afrigo Band.
Matovu died after he was attacked by an unknown assailant near his home in Kibuli, Kampala in the wee hours on Thursday September 24, 2026.
The 77-year-old was rushed to Kibuli Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival with the Kampala Metropolitan Police confirming the incident happened in Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division and he later succumbed to injuries.
Matovu the footballer and football administrator
Though many Ugandans know Matovu for his music through Afrigo Band where he has been one of the founding members and director, he is a former footballer who featured for among others Nakivubo Boys (now SC Villa), Express and Police FC.
