The Lugogo Indoor Arena is set for a dramatic climax on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as Uganda guarantees itself at least a silver medal in the mixed doubles at the 2026 Kampala International Future Series.
Top-seeded Ugandan pair Muzafaru Lubega and Gladys Mbabazi booked their place in the decisive final after stellar performances through the four-day tournament, running from September 24 to 27.
They will face Malaysia’s formidable combination of Hafiz Hakimi Hashim and Lim Xuan in the championship clash, where the winners will take home gold and the losers will settle for silver.
Carrying the nation’s highest hopes for a home court gold, the mixed doubles final is scheduled as the third match on Court 1, with play getting underway at 11 am.

This year’s feat marks a significant improvement from the 2025 Kampala International Future Series, where Uganda collected a total of seven bronze medals.
Last year, Muzafaru Lubega and Husina Kobugabe won bronze in mixed doubles, Gladys Mbabazi and Husina Kobugabe claimed bronze in women’s doubles, Fred Kirabo and Ivan Mayega took bronze in men’s doubles, and Harshita Singh secured Uganda’s seventh bronze.
This time around, however, Lubega and Mbabazi have decisively moved beyond bronze, guaranteeing a podium finish and earning the opportunity to turn their guaranteed silver into gold.
The packed closing programme at the Lugogo Indoor Arena features fierce international competition across all divisions;
- Women’s Doubles Final: India’s Akshita Manral and Ishita Negi face compatriots Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker.
- Men’s Doubles Final: India’s Abhyuday Choudhary and Ayush Makhija take on Manav Choudhary and Himanshu Tiwari.
- Singles: India also dominates the singles finals, with Ishita Negi meeting Akshita Manral in the women’s final, and Abhishek Kanapala squaring off against Tanmoy Bikash Boruah in the men’s final.
