Result: Kitara 1-0 Kigezi HomeBoyz
Kitara secured their first victory of the Uganda Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kigezi HomeBoyz at Hoima City Stadium on Wednesday.
Edward Namasa scored the decisive goal as the Royals held on for three valuable points to move up to ninth place on the 18-team table.
Kitara started brightly, throwing numbers forward in search of an early breakthrough but were not sharp enough in the final third.
Living Kabon came close to opening the scoring inside the opening 15 minutes, but his close-range effort narrowly missed the target.
Five minutes later, Frank Tumwesigye tested Kigezi goalkeeper Norman Angfindru from distance, forcing him into a full-stretch save.
Kitara eventually found the breakthrough in the 26th minute through right back Namasa.
Gadafi Wahab delivered into the danger area, but Angfindru failed to make contact with the ball, creating confusion inside the Kigezi penalty area.
Namasa reacted quickest, firing a powerful effort that took a deflection on its way into the net. The goal gave Kitara the advantage but Kigezi remained in the contest as they looked for a response.
With five minutes remaining in the first half, Kitara head coach Wasswa Bbosa made his first change, introducing Alex Wasswa for Gadafi.
Kigezi came out looking for an equaliser after the break, with Joseph Jemba and Mike Walaga among those trying to trouble the Kitara defence.
However, the hosts remained disciplined at the back and successfully kept Kigezi at bay to secure all three points.
The victory lifts Kitara to ninth place with five points, while Kigezi HomeBoyz remain bottom of the 18-team table with just one point.
