Result: Blacks Power 0-4 Vipers
Vipers SC produced a commanding performance to thrash Blacks Power 4-0 in the Uganda Premier League at Hoima City Stadium on Thursday.
Gusto Mulongo scored twice, while Arafat Usama and Milton Karisa also found the net as the Venoms collected maximum points on the road.
After opening their league campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC, a result that came alongside their CAF Champions League exit, Vipers have bounced back strongly, winning their last two league matches against Ntungasaze and Blacks Power.
For Blacks Power, the defeat ends an impressive run of three consecutive victories. They have now suffered back-to-back league losses, leaving head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa with plenty to ponder as he looks to get his side back on track.
Vipers took control early, with Mulongo breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute with a superb flying header after connecting with Ashraf Mandela’s brilliant cross from the right flank.
Usama doubled the visitors’ advantage on the half-hour mark with a sharp snapshot that left the Blacks Power defence beaten.
Vipers continued to dominate and struck again just before the interval. Mulongo completed his brace with a beautifully curled effort into the top corner after being expertly set up by Usama.
Blacks Power struggled to find a way back into the contest after the break, and Vipers added a fourth in the 81st minute.
Karisa rose highest to head Mandela’s inviting delivery into the bottom corner, putting the finishing touch on a comprehensive victory.
The result lifts Vipers to seventh place with six points from three matches, while Blacks Power remain fourth on nine points from five games.
