Uganda Cranes defender Geoffrey Wasswa has agreed to join Adama City FC, turning down interest from Ugandan giants Vipers SC and KCCA FC to continue his career in Ethiopia.

Wasswa, who has built a strong reputation in the Ethiopian Premier League, was reported to have agreed terms with Adama City in August 2026, setting up another chapter in his career abroad.

The defender is no stranger to Ethiopian football, having moved there from KCCA in 2023. His decision to remain in the country comes after successful spells with Ethiopian Coffee and Fasil Kenema.

Wasswa began his Ethiopian journey with Ethiopian Coffee, also known as Ethiopia Bunna, where he spent two seasons. He helped the club win the Ethiopian Cup and earned a place in the league’s Best XI following his impressive performances.

His displays attracted interest from other clubs, leading to a move to Fasil Kenema in September 2025 on a two-year contract.

However, his reported agreement with Adama City would see him change clubs again while remaining in Ethiopia.

Vipers and KCCA had been linked with the defender as they sought to bring him back to Ugandan football, but the reported move to Adama City has put Ethiopia on course to remain his home.

Wasswa previously played for Vipers, winning two Uganda Premier League titles and an Uganda Cup before joining SC Villa in 2020. He later moved to KCCA ahead of the 2021/22 season before leaving for Ethiopia in 2023.

His experience, versatility and familiarity with Ethiopian football have made him a valuable player. Primarily a central defender, he can also operate in defensive midfield.

Wasswa is among several Ugandan footballers who have pursued opportunities in the Ethiopian Premier League.

Allan Kayiwa is another notable name. He played for Shashemene Kenema before joining Ethiopian Insurance, with whom he celebrated winning the league title in June 2025.

Other Ugandans who have featured for Ethiopian clubs include Simon Peter Lokech at CBE, Brian Aheebwa at Arba Minch, Nafian Alionzi at Mechal, Thomas Ikara at Sidama Bunna, Charles Musiige at Dire Dawa, Martin Kizza at Fasil Kenema, Alex Kitata at Shire, and Fahad Bayo and Musa Ramathan at Wolwalo.
