Premier League enthusiasts in Uganda may have received a bitter pill to swallow this weekend, but the football fiesta is far from over.

Despite the sudden cancellation of the highly anticipated Premier League Trophy Tour in Kampala, organisers have confirmed that all scheduled match watch parties will go ahead as planned. Even better, what started as a heartbreak for local fans has taken a thrilling turn: 10 lucky fans, along with a plus-one each, making a total of 20 Ugandan fans, will be winning an all-expenses-paid trip to watch a Premier League match live in the UK.

While the iconic silver trophy won’t be landing on Ugandan soil this week, the energy, passion, and rewards surrounding the weekend’s festivities just reached a whole new level.

What We Know So Far

  • Watch Parties Proceeding as Scheduled: The main highlight for football fans this weekend remains fully intact. Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) and Guinness have reassured fans that all MatchDay watch parties will proceed without interruption. Fans across Kampala and surrounding areas can still gather at designated venues (UICT Grounds opposite the Agakhan University Hospital in Nakawa) to enjoy the electric atmosphere, cold drinks, and live match coverage on big screens.
  • 20 Fans to Watch the Premier League Live: As a reward for the passion exhibited by Ugandan fans, Guinness Uganda has upped the ante. A special competition tied to the watch parties will see 10 fans win all-expenses-paid tickets to travel to the UK to watch a Premier League game live inside a legendary stadium. Since each winner gets to bring a companion (+1), a total of 30 Ugandans will be making the dream pilgrimage to English football’s biggest stage.
  • Official Cancellation of the Trophy Tour: In an official statement released on October 10, 2026, Uganda Breweries Limited expressed regret over the cancellation of the trophy tour, which was originally slated to take place from October 11 to October 13, 2026. Despite extensive preparation, unexpected circumstances prevented the trophy from making its arrival as planned.
  • Sponsor Apology & Recommitment: Acknowledging the immense disappointment felt across the local sports community, the Guinness Uganda team has offered a sincere apology to fans, partners, and stakeholders across Uganda. They emphasised their continued commitment to Ugandan football fans and promised direct communication with all key stakeholders regarding the ongoing activations.
