Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Elvis Ngonde

Despite starting only once against Kataka FC and having been involved in a total of three games, midfielder Elvis Ngonde has urged his KCCA FC teammates to maintain their newly found winning momentum when they travel to the Police Arena to face league newcomers Ntugasaze FC on Tuesday, October 13, as the Kasasiro Boys continue their push to leave a sluggish start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season behind them.

Having found some much-needed rhythm following back-to-back victories over Kataka FC and URA FC, Ngonde wants his team to build on that steady progress by fighting for all three points in their Matchday Six encounter.

“The competition was not easy, but we are ready to play Ntugasaze tomorrow,” Ngonde declared ahead of the clash.

KCCA’s campaign got off to a turbulent start, opening with back-to-back 2-0 defeats against NEC FC and Express FC, followed by a goalless draw against Kigezi Homeboyz. However, the 13-time league champions responded strongly with a 1-0 victory over Kataka before edging URA FC by the same scoreline on October 9.

The tight win against URA also marked the return of striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe. Despite missing a penalty during the match, Ahimbisibwe made amends by netting the decisive winning goal to secure consecutive victories for KCCA.

Despite the recent turnaround, Ngonde candidly acknowledged that the team’s overall start has fallen short of their high standards, emphasising that work remains to be done both individually and as a squad.

“For the team, we just want to fight for three points. As a player, I need to make assists and play well. Looking at the start of the KCCA FC team this season, it was not the very best,” Ngonde admitted.

He credited the team’s recovery to internal solidarity, togetherness, and accountability during tough moments.

“We are just pushing ourselves as a team because we are family. KCCA is a family, so we are pushing ourselves,” he added.

The midfielder highlighted the crucial role played by senior squad members in helping new arrivals adjust to the high expectations at Lugogo. He specifically singled out experienced teammate and Captain Filbert Obenchan for mentoring the newcomers and encouraging them to deliver on the pitch.

“The senior players, like Obenchan, are pushing us, the new players, to play well,” Ngonde explained. “Just focus. Because this is a big club, as you know, you have to focus on the badge. We are fighting for the badge and for the fans.”

Sitting 10th on the log with seven points from five matches, this KCCA side boasts a record of two wins, one draw, and two defeats with two goals scored and four conceded (-2 goal difference), and enters the contest as clear favourites on paper against a struggling Ntugasaze team anchored in 16th place with just three points, having suffered four losses alongside a single win while conceding 11 goals and scoring three (-8 goal difference).

Head coach Brian Ssenyondo’s KCCA side have scored twice and conceded four. Crucially, match-winners Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Emmanuel Anyama have accounted for their goals so far. A third consecutive victory on Tuesday would solidify KCCA’s recovery and offer them an opportunity to climb higher up the table.

However, hosts Ntugasaze FC will not be short of motivation. The top-flight newcomers ended a gruelling four-match losing streak on October 7 by defeating Mbarara City FC 1-0 at the Kira Road Police Arena, thanks to Jacob Opar’s 29th-minute strike, securing their first-ever victory in the Uganda Premier League.

Prior to that historic win, Ntugasaze endured a rough initiation to top-flight football, falling 1-0 to Blacks Power, 3-1 to Maroons, 4-1 to BUL, and 3-0 to Vipers SC. Sitting 16th with three points and a minus-eight goal difference, Ntugasaze will view their recent breakthrough as a vital confidence boost, even as they prepare to test themselves against a surging KCCA side.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s fixture, Ngonde issued a direct, confident appeal to the KCCA faithful, promising a performance worthy of their support.

“One message for the fans: come one, come all. Tomorrow we are going to win. It’s not going to be an easy game, but we are going to win. We are not going to disappoint you again.”

While KCCA aim to make their momentum count and Ntugasaze look to use their maiden league win as a springboard for survival, both sides enter Tuesday’s clash with everything to play for as the Matchday Six schedule kicked off on Saturday, 10th October 2026 when Kitara Football Club registered a 2-1 victory on the road over debutants Kataka at the Bukedea Comprehensive School Sports Complex.

Mbarara City secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Blacks Power in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Rwamwanja Stadium on Sunday, before Maroons earned a hard fought point off Vipers after a one-all draw at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
